4th & 5th Class - Workshop Map for 1 academic year
Introduction
Try Five+ 2025-2026 includes 5 workshops for 4th class and 3 workshops for 5th class. The workshop map suggests not only the order of the workshops, but also how you can connect the key knowledge with your own teaching plan.
4th - Think like a Scientist & Microscopy
Introduction
During this activity students will explore the different parts of the scientific method as they learn to think scientifically. Students will carry on their own experiments: first stablishing a research question, a hypothesis, followed by testing and graphing their results. Finally, students will explore the fundamental requirements for life by conducting their own mini experiments growing plants. These experiments will dwelve on what makes plants grow, not grow or grow better in different environments, and how this can be applied to space exploration and future space settlements.

4th - The Sustainable Space Explorer
Introduction
Building on the previous workshop, students will learn to harvest energy from the wind by building their own wind turbine and learning about how the shape and size of the blades impacts energy generation.

4th - Rocket Science
Introduction
Building on previos workshop about engineering and design principles, students will develop their own paper rockets to be launched using an air pressure rocket launcher. Students will the STEM skills developed during previous workshops to make improvements and compete for the highest or longest time-of-flight rocket. The activity will culminate with the launch of a solid fuel rocket.

5th - Sun-Earth-Moon
Introduction
Students will explore how light and the motions of celestial bodies explain the moon phases. First, with simple demonstration about shadow and laser light, they will observe that light travels in straight lines in a clear medium. This helps them understand how sunlight reaches Earth and creates shadows. Next, students will make simple Sun–Earth–Moon models using everyday materials to visualize the movements in 3D. Finally, by operating their own models, students will explore and discover why the Moon appears in different shapes.
Key Knowledge:
- Objects can absorb and reflect light;
- The light goes straight in clear medium;
- The Moon goes around Earth in about 29-30 days;
- Make a circuit (review) ;
- Moon phases: New moon, First Quarter, Full moon, Last quarter (not necessary to remember all the names, but need to know why it looks different).
