✨2025-2026: Make a Terrarium 🌳

For this workshop with 4th class, we brought the outdoors inside – to build an ecosystem in a Jar. 🌱

We began with learning key concepts like ecosystem, water cycle and food chain by relating to daily life. Then we looked at the famous “Biosphere 2” experiment and David Latimer’s bottle garden (which hasn’t been opened since 1972!) to inspire ideas of the design of terrariums and even the ecosystem in space station and moon base!

The highlight of the workshop was their collaboration. Pupils decided their own roles as Leader, Resource Manager, Maker and Designer, helping each other and managing their working process. Working in teams, the students built their own self-sustaining terrariums and will observe and try to maintain the balance for 5 weeks. We can’t wait to read their observation diaries! It wasn’t just about gardening; it was about seeing the water cycle in action by watching what happens inside the jar.
