⚡⚡2025-2026: Build a Wind Turbine
In this workshop, we explored the renewable energy 🍃 and discovered how science powers the world around us 🌍⚡
We began by understanding what renewable energy is. We also learned that in Ireland, wind energy is one of the most widely used renewable sources, providing a large portion of the country’s electricity 🌬️ But how do wind turbines actually generate electricity? 🤔
Through a hands-on experiment, we concluded that a moving magnet can generate electricity! Then we asked an important question — does it work the other way around? By turning a handle, we rotated a coil inside a magnetic field, successfully lighting up a bulb once again ✨ This helped us understand the basic principle behind wind turbines. 🎈

Finally, it was time to get creative! 🎉We designed and built our own mini wind turbines and tested how much electricity we could generate using a meter. We discovered that even small design changes — like the shape or the angle of the blades — could affect performance! 🧐
An amazing session where students explored ideas, tested what works, and built their own designs. 🏫 Very big thanks to our fantastic funders to make these workshops possible:
